Frequently Asked Questions

What are your mic flags made of?

3D Mic Flags are made of ABS plastic with a high-density foam core. Each mic flag is strong and lightweight.

Are your mic flags screen printed or is a sticker applied?

Neither. Each 3D Mic Flag is 3D printed, so your logo/design is actually made of plastic.

Can I use fancy gradients in my design?

Due to the nature of 3D printing, you are limited to specific filament colors. We have a page that specifies the available colors and their PANTONE/RGB equivalents.

What sort of detail can be printed?

We recommend including elements no smaller than 0.5mm in your design. Elements at this scale will not be noticeable to your audience.

Are the designs printed smooth or are there print lines?

Due to the nature of 3D printing, there will be some visible print lines when closely examined. Will they be visible on your broadcast? We seriously doubt it. We’re talking fractions of a millimeter.

What sort of artwork do you accept?

AI (Adobe Illustrator) or EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) files are what we need. These are vector designs that allow us to scale your logo to fit on your mic flag. If you only have an SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) file, then you can email it to us once your order is placed. We’ll be in touch with where to send it. (Unfortunately, SVG files can’t be uploaded via our form.)

Please do NOT send JPEG/JPG, GIF, PNG, TIFF or any other “image” file. We won’t be able to use those.

Designs need to be solid colors and simple shapes, as gradients, drop shadows, embossing and lighting effects cannot be replicated in 3D printing. Most of these effects were included in your 2D design to imply three dimensions, and now that you have three dimensions, they are not needed. Gradients also need to be eliminated.

What if I provide the wrong type of artwork file?

If there are any problems with what you provide, we will let you know. If files are unreadable, not in the correct format, or consist of a design that cannot be replicated, we will work with you to make the modifications to get things in order!

Am I limited to designing within the square/rectangle face or can elements protrude beyond those bounds?

The beauty of 3D Mic Flags is that we can create “overflow” which is an element that extends beyond the square or rectangular face of the mic flag itself… within reason, of course. Things like small network logos, the start and end of script lettering, or the tops of a cityscape design are all good examples of overflow.

If the design itself is slanted, consists of an irregular shape, or is produced in a way where areas are “cut out” and would need to have the mic flag box behind it removed, this is where our Custom Mic Flags come in. Here we design a product to match your design.

Why no 3-sided square-faced mic flag?

While we can make any shape and size, we would encourage you to consider the 4-sided square mic flag. For some reason 3-sided square faces look weird on TV, and we don’t want weird.

What’s the best way to begin?

If you are an art director or creative with knowledge of vector graphics, you are the one your organization needs to participate in the ordering process.

Your design needs to be created in a vector format. Measure the Artboard in inches to determine what size your design will translate to when printed on a 3D Mic Flag. If your dimensions end up “in-between” what we offer, you can 1) make some modifications to your design (squeeze and squish at your own risk), or 2) lock in your design’s width matching one of our standard widths and then see if we can accommodate a height that is fractionally different from what we offer.

Now you know the 3D Mic Flag size you want to order, so it’s just a matter of selecting a quantity, uploading your vector file, and placing the order.

Do I have to pay for my order before production begins?

Yes. You will pay for your order at the end of Checkout. We will take your design and make a three dimensional rendering of your 3D Mic Flag for you to approve. Once you approve it, production begins.

If you are concerned about paying for an order without knowing whether your logo/design will work on a 3D Mic Flag, please contact us to discuss. We will be happy to review your artwork and offer improvements or give the big thumbs-up that everything looks good.

Will your mic flags survive a hurricane or a war zone?

Since 3D Mic Flags are made of 100% plastic and not paper, ink, or metal, they have a much higher chance of withstanding harsh conditions than other products. There are no stickers to peal or deteriorate over time, so as long as you hold on to your microphone with our 3D Mic Flag attached, we feel like you’ll be coming home with our product in one piece. (Granted, the foam might need drying out after that hurricane.)
